Stampers Day Out in Memphis, TN

After recovering from a respiratory infection that put me down for a full week, I was sooo happy to feel well enough to attend this event. Once a year the Rolling on the Rubber stamp club puts on a full day of creative play for artists. From 9 am to 5pm, we are kept creating, eating & shopping. How much better can a day get?

Michelle Wilkerson taught the first class of the day. She taught us the Zindorf technique. I've done lots of techniques but I must say this was a first! I selected palm trees for a tropical sunset scene. Turned out perfect! Way to go teach!

Cyndi Watkins took on the second class. She showed us how to use our alcohol inks to create wonderful backgrounds to showcase a stamped image. The technique was done on marbled tiles, heat set & then sprayed with a sealer to protect the artwork. Now all is needed is a felt/cork backing to protect furniture. I've done this technique before & this was a refresher! Nice teaching Cyndi!

During lunch I helped out RockCandy Studios handle the masses! I tell ya, it was like eating potato chips.....ya just can't eat just one. Well the same that goes with RockCandy, you can't just buy ONE item! I must say that Barbara Rankin took the prize for the one with the most RockCandy embellishments of the day! Way to go Barbara! • Artistic Outpost was there with the most wonderful rubber images! If you've not seen the Snowy Woods images, it's a MUST! I can't wait to ink my rubber & create wonderful pieces of art! • A table of the most beautiful jewelry covered the next table. The sparkle was intense! As a jewelry artist, I can appreciate the beautiful work. • Oxford Impression took the next table by storm. I bought several plates I'd been wanting for awhile. Can't wait to use the Bird images. Oh course, one plate wasn't enough! • Shelly Hickox had a table of art eye candy. I meant buy some test tubes but I missed out on those! Maybe next time?

Robyn Sharp taught the next class. A 6x6 canvas was the base as ordinary newspaper turned the canvas into a wonderful collage! In this collage, we were encouraged to sponge color & tear our newspaper into strips. We punched out about 50 small leaves. A strip of newspaper was torn out for the tree trunk. The little girl holding the kitty & the pumpkin is an image from Artistic Outpost. The black border along the bottom & the black bird is from RockCandy. A small yellow Swavorskian crystal was put on the little girl's hat. When I look at the canvas, I'm thinking of punching out more leaves & having them run off the canvas so it balances the bird's flight. Thanks for the class Robyn!

Inspired by Timmy baby (Tim Holtz), Shelly provided the parts for us all to create a Grunge Metal Necklace. The parts are all from Tim's Ideology line. Shelly showed us a wonderful sample for us to follow. As a bonus, Shelly taught us the Bandanna Technique. This was a first for me. How relaxing this was after everyone was through rubbing their color on! Thanks Shelly for a new technique to do!

My table mates were great! Georgia Moorehead, Corky Alford, Stephanie McMurry and Brenda Taylor & I had a terrific time & of course probably the most well-behaved of all tables! :-)

There are lots of perfect days but some are more perfect than others. Perfect, just perfect!
